My recent thoughts were to analyze what all I’ve ordered online and how much of it was really needed. The inability to download order history from amazon India motivated me to write this post.
Why download order history from amazon India?
One easy way to attain an online ‘epiphany’ is to download your order history from amazon and other online shopping sites.
Mr. Myself! 🙂
Yes, recently I was reading this research paper on shopping addiction(online or retail). — which; surprisingly, many modern hooked charlies have termed as ‘Retail therapy’ (or) ‘Shopping therapy’…!! ?
For some reason, immediately I wanted to do a buying pattern analysis on myself! 🙂
Since analysis require data, it was time to download all of my online purchase history. Personally, my major chunk of online spend is on amazon.in. Though amazon’s business model is rigged to betray customers, it is relatively slightly better compared to other cavalier e-commerce sites in India.
Problem with downloading purchase history on amazon India
However, as of today, amazon does not provide the feature to download order history for amazon India customers out of the box (No surprise there). Needless to say, this option is available under ‘profile’ section for people living in developed countries like US. (No surprise there either!). ?
However, I still haven’t understood the strategy & thought process behind not giving this option to Indian customers despite India being a pretty big market.?
Nevertheless, without ranting anymore, let’s see the best option to download purchase history from amazon India.
Warning:- This method involves using a browser plugin. Please do your due diligence before using it.
You need google chrome browser and should have privilege to install a plugin. Data will be downloaded in .CSV format
Steps to export in CSV format:
Step 1: Install this plugin from chrome web store.
Step 2: Activate it and navigate to amazon.in >> the plugin lights up and turns orange color –> this indicates that it is ready. You’ll also see a small blank banner just below address bar:- Refer the image below:
Step 3: Navigate to >> Orders >> On Left-top corner, You’ll see list of Years just beside the ‘clear cache’ button.
Step 4: Clicking a year will download order history from amazon India for that particular year.
I chose ‘All years’ to get complete list of purchase history.
Warning:- If you click ‘All years’ and if you have a ton of item in your order history, make sure you wait until everything has been queued and processed to avoid incomplete data download!
Step 5: No more steps! Just save the file and see how much you’ve spent on what.
Side Note: Try plotting a graph on this data and see your basic buying pattern! (Month on month, week on week etc.) ☺
Downside of this approach:
You will also have your ‘Kindle order history‘ along with your items in your order history. Use Excel filtering tools to filter that out in the downloaded CSV.
Benefit of doing all this:
Honestly, it wasn’t too insightful. However, I practically realized how much I could have saved/invested instead of buying things that I don’t actually need. With this data in my mind, I hope I’ll be little conscious before buying things now ? .This also made me realize my Needs Vs Wants. ?
Cheers, ?

Thank you, this was very useful for me. Great extension!!
Glad that it was of help. Thanks for sharing feedback!
Hi, I just happened on this method. Thanks for the good work done. I was at my wits end figuring out how to get my order history.
Am using Chrome on a Mac. On this I am unable to see the bar you mention. Instead I get the similar display when I click the plugin icon.
Some of my payment methods come up as “unknown”. Need to debug those to see what they are.
Thanks once again.
I’m glad you liked it! Hey, I observed the same too. However, payment methods are sensitive information. So I didn’t think too much about it but good catch.
