Last Updated on March 14, 2021 by Shivanandana Hegde

The easiest and safest way to uninstall system apps from your Xiaomi and Mi phones is without rooting and without bootloader unlock.

If you are a Xiaomi (or) Mi phone user, you already know about tons of bloatware that comes with these Chinese phones. The problem is that they are installed as ‘system apps‘ and it not easy to uninstall or disable them directly.

Requirements to uninstall system apps from Xiaomi mobiles and Mi phones:

Only 2 things required along with your phone.

  1. Computer/ Laptop
  2. USB cable to connect phone to PC.

Note: You should have Java installed in your PC. No need of Java SDK, you just need JRE (Java Runtime Environment). This gives your PC, the ability to run .jar files – the file format of the utility that we’ll use to uninstall system apps from xiaomi and mi mobile phones.

Mostly it’ll be installed already but just in case you need it, get Java from this link.

Remember: You don’t need full Java SDK just JRE. The download should be typically just about 2 MB. Install it after downloading.

You can directly Jump to these steps:

Four simple steps to uninstall unwanted system apps and bloatware from our Xiaomi phone

Step 1: Get the Awesome MI Tools from github.

A person named Greg (Szaki) has built a wonderful utility – Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools. This is an extremely useful tool for xiaomi and mi phone users. Using this you can uninstall, disable and do much more advanced tasks.

Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools

Unzip the file and extract the XiaomiADBFastbootTools.jar file.

Step 2: Enable ‘Developer Options >> USB-Debugging‘ on your Xiaomi or Mi phone.

On your phone, go to Settings >> About phone >> Tap 7 times contentiously on MIUI VERSION. You should get a toast message displaying that your are now a developer.

Now go back to Settings >> Additional Settings >> Developer options. For some Xiaomi models, it can be found directly under Settings.

Toggle the USB Debugging option.

Step 3: Connect your Phone to PC using USB cable and open the XiaomiADBFastbootTools.jar file.

The interface of this Xiaomi system app uninstaller looks like this: If you connect the phone first, then open this file, it will recognize it. Else, it’ll take few seconds to recognize your phone.

NOTE:

  1. If a newer version is available, it’ll automatically check and prompt to download.
  2. You might need to ‘Approve’ USB-Debugging warning from your phone when you connect it first time to your PC.

You can see the options ‘Uninstaller’ and ‘Disabler’ buttons as shown. If you are not sure of uninstalling any app, it is best if you just disable it and later if system is unstable, you can enable it.

Step 4: Select the apps and Click on uninstall system apps from your xiaomi phone(or disable).

See, this how easily you can uninstall system and default apps from Xiaomi phones and mi mobiles.

☠️ Don’t forget to disable USB-Debugging for security reasons after the uninstall.

Also, REMEMBER:- Next time you do a system ‘Update’ on your Xiaomi/Mi phone, the chances are.. these apps will be installed back. You’ll have to follow these steps again.

I have uninstalled these Xiaomi system apps and it is 100% safe to get rid of them if you want to.

  • Mi – Pay
  • Mi – Credit
  • Google Play Music
  • Google Play Movies
  • MSA – MIUI System Ads
  • Music – Since ‘Hungama’ is not my preferred choice.
  • Facebook – What the heck is this app doing here? I didn’t even install it. There are 3 services!!
    • Ducking Ad networks..!

Tip:– Generally, apps with package names containing com.android. and com.google. will be OK to keep. The bloatware are mostly from apps with package name com.miui. and com.xiaomi.

….

One big ‘Kudos’ to Szaki (Greg) for creating/compiling this awesome tool. You can even change your mobile’s screen resolution, DPI, install ROMs etc.

Cheers…?
